A very large, stately specimen tree that is particularly useful for exposed coastal positions as it looks good even when exposed to harsh salt laden winds. Its pyramidal shape is its very distinctive feature but it should be stressed that this tree needs a lot of space and should not be planted within 10 metres of any structures. It needs no regular pruning although I have seen this plant used as a hedge once. It also makes a very good Christmas tree when grown in a pot.
