The tree waratah is a spectacular flowering large tree from North Queensland rainforest areas. It grows to 25 metres there, but is smaller in cultivation. It has large bright red flowers in spring, displayed on the ends of the branches. It is a hardy and adaptable tree for farms and parks. It can be grown on a wide range of soils, and tolerates moderate frost. Fertilise with a low phosphorus native fertiliser if needed.
This plant used to be known as Oreocallis wickhamii.
