A medium to large shrub with heavily scented flowers, ranging in colour from light yellow to orange brown. The flowers look quite remarkable when in bud, and are attractive to nectar eating birds and other insects.
Banksia media is particularly good for coastal areas, as it can tolerate salt spray and strong winds. It is also ideal for controlling erosion.
Best grown in medium to well drained soil and can tolerate alkaline soil, as well as frost and drought. Banksias are phosphorus sensitive, so a good native fertiliser is best when it comes to feeding time.
