An open shrub growing to around a metre tall. The name pungens refers to the sharp pointed leaves. It has bracts of flowers from late winter to spring, usually white but there are pink forms. Naturally occurring from eastern NSW to southern Queensland, common on Sydney coastal heathland. Suits temperate and sub-tropical areas. Likes well drained soil with regular moisture, part shade. Does not like root disturbance.
