A delightful medium sized shrub that bears masses of bell shaped flowers in spring and autumn. There are different colour forms, from red or pink tipped with white to all white varieties. It naturally grows in well drained sandy soils with dappled shade, with a regular supply of moisture. They dislike root disturbance, so it is a good idea to apply a layer of leaf litter or bark chips to deter weeds. Tip pruning after flowering will encourage a more dense habit, as it has a tendancy to have quite an open habit. Feed with a good native fertiliser at the beginning of spring. Can be container grown if you don’t have a well drained spot. Good for protected coastal gardens, and can tolerate only light frost once established.
