A bushy shrub to 2 metres high and a metre wide, with red brown foliage that gently weeps, highlighted with red berries from time to time. The foliage colour makes a good contrast to other plants, though shady conditions will tend to make more greenish coloured leaves.
Does well on a wide range of soil types, and likes a sunny position. Best in warm temperate to tropical areas, as cooler temperatures can lead to leaf drop, as will dry or windy conditions. This plant will greatly benefit from pruning to rejuvenate, growers have reported that hard pruning them is OK. In warm areas with plentiful water, this plant can become large with a wandering root system that will sucker if cut, so don’t plant near drains, buildings etc
Note– the berries are not edible to humans, but birds will eat them
