This large shrub or small tree which grows to around six metres is now known as Banksia sessilis. It has prickly holly-like leaves and rounded pale yellow brush flowers. It blooms heavily from winter to late spring, and is nectar rich and attracts wildlife. Parrots eat the seed as well. It needs to be grown in well drained soil as it is very susceptible to Phytophthora. Tolerates drought and frost, and likes alkaline soils.
