The scientific name ‘littoralis’ means ‘belonging to the sea shore’, referring to the coastal woodland habitat of this large, majestic banksia. Growing to a large shrub or small tree, the Swamp Banksia is best suited to parks and farms, and is particularly good for coastal areas.
The wood is said to have an exquisite grain and can be used in cabinet making. Aside from its ornamental features, it can also be used as a windbreak, and to control soil erosion. It is a fast growing species. Banksias are phosphorus sensitive, so a good native fertiliser is best when it comes to feeding time.
