A species from the northern sandplain in WA, the Sceptre Banksia is one of the most magnificent of yellow flowering banksias. The flowers are prominent and very well displayed on the plant. The blooms are often used as cut flowers.
A dense, tall shrub, it can also be used for hedges and windbreaks, and is a good choice for coastal areas. Does best in a Mediterranean climate, with dry summers, as it is prone to dieback.
Needs very well drained soil and good sunlight, preferably full sun. Banksias are phosphorus sensitive, so a good native fertiliser is best when it comes to feeding time.
