Swamp Banksia Seeds – Banksia robur
*** Approximately 5 seeds per packet ***
Banksia robur, the swamp banksia, is a dramatic looking banksia with large serrated leaves. The new growth has a felty coating of brown hairs, which is an attractive feature. As the name indicates, it naturally occurs in damp areas on sandy soils, but is very adaptable to a wide range of conditions and soils. It needs full sun for best flowering, but will happily grow in part shade. The flowers are bluish green, and turn yellow green as the flower ages. It is hardy to frosts once established, but may need protection from frosts when young. It is a fast growing plant.
SEED SOWING – Sow in spring or autumn. Sow on the surface of good quality seed raising mix and only just cover the seed with more mix, they should not be sown too deeply. Keep moist but not wet, as over wet conditions can cause the seed to rot. Smoke treatment is not necessary but may improve germination. If you decide to use it, there are smoke granules also available here, and they can be sprinkled over at seed planting time. Seed germinates in three to five weeks. If germinating in pots or punnets, prick out new seedlings at the cotyledon stage.
The Gardening With Angus seed range is a mix of species that are either wild sourced from licensed harvesters or superior species selections grown in cultivation. The seeds are thoroughly tested for quality, viability & germination. They are meticulously cleaned followed by oxygen deprivation storage, before being sealed for freshness within a heat sealed seed sachet.
